Troops of 25 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Operation HADIN KAI and Operation DESERT SANITY V, have arrested six suspected drug dealers during an intelligence-led sting operation in Damboa town, Borno State.
The suspects were apprehended at about 2:30 p.m. on Monday, August 17, following sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering on the activities of suspected drug peddlers operating in the area.
According to security sources, troops conducted coordinated raids at different locations within Damboa town, leading to the arrest of six suspects identified as Yakubu Mustapha, Musa Abu, Abubakar Gubo, Li Modu, Shettima Kolo and Abdullah Mohammed.
Various quantities of suspected marijuana, other hard drugs and chemicals were recovered during the operation.
The suspects and the recovered exhibits have been taken into custody by the unit’s Military Police for preliminary investigation.
They are expected to be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The arrests form part of ongoing efforts by the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, to dismantle criminal networks and disrupt activities capable of threatening security and stability across the theatre.
Although the security situation in the area remains relatively calm, troops have continued to maintain a high level of vigilance, with intelligence-driven operations being sustained to prevent criminal elements from regrouping.
Security forces say the latest operation underscores their determination to tackle not only insurgency but also criminal activities that could undermine peace and stability in communities across Borno State.
