GOMBE — Beneficiaries of Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna’s renowned Foreign Scholarship Initiative, popularly known as the Sardauna Scholars, have thrown their weight behind his governorship ambition, pledging to embark on a grassroots, door-to-door campaign to mobilize support for his bid to lead Gombe State.
The scholars made their position known during a solidarity visit to Dr. Gwamna in Gombe, where they expressed gratitude for what they described as a life-changing educational opportunity that transformed their futures.
Led by Muhammad Umar Adam, the group praised the APC governorship hopeful for investing in the education and development of young people through a fully funded foreign scholarship programme that enabled beneficiaries to study in Morocco across various disciplines.
According to the scholars, Dr. Gwamna’s commitment to human capital development distinguishes him as a leader with a genuine passion for empowering youths and creating opportunities for future generations.
“We are products of his vision and generosity. He invested in our future when many had lost hope. Today, we are proud to stand with him and mobilize support across communities because we have seen firsthand his commitment to education, youth development and the progress of Gombe State,” the group said.
The endorsement highlights the impact of a scholarship initiative launched by Dr. Gwamna in 2019, through which ten students drawn from the ten local government areas of Gombe State were sponsored to pursue undergraduate studies in Morocco.
The programme covered tuition fees, transportation, feeding, accommodation and other allowances, with funding provided entirely by Dr. Gwamna until the scholars successfully completed their studies in 2022.
The beneficiaries described the initiative as one of the most significant private educational interventions in the state, noting that it opened doors to global opportunities and enhanced their capacity to contribute meaningfully to society.
Responding to the show of support, an emotional Dr. Gwamna said the success of the scholars remains one of his proudest achievements.
He described education as the most powerful tool for societal transformation and reaffirmed his commitment to expanding opportunities for young people if elected governor.
“The achievements of these scholars prove that investing in education is investing in the future. Their success gives me great joy and strengthens my resolve to do even more for the people of Gombe State,” he said.
Gwamna pledged that his administration would sustain and expand the foreign scholarship programme to accommodate more beneficiaries from across the state, while also introducing additional initiatives aimed at youth empowerment, women development and economic growth.
He emphasized that inclusive governance and human capital development would remain central pillars of his administration if given the mandate to serve.
The gathering ended with the scholars reaffirming their determination to campaign vigorously for Gwamna’s emergence, describing him as a leader with the vision, experience and compassion needed to move Gombe State to greater heights.
Political observers say the endorsement by the Sardauna Scholars adds another layer of grassroots support to Gwamna’s growing political profile ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.
