At the end-of-year press briefing held at the Borno State Police Command Headquarters in Maiduguri, Commissioner of Police Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, highlighted the achievements and breakthroughs of the command in 2024, as well as the strategic projections for the upcoming year 2025.
In his address, CP Lawal commended the vision of Inspector General of Police IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, in prioritizing a safe and secure environment for all Nigerians. He emphasized the importance of quality service delivery, professionalism, and policing excellence in alignment with the 10-year strategic plan of Borno restoration envisioned by the state government.
The CP outlined the strategies adopted by the command to combat crimes and social vices, including coordinated operations with other security agencies, intentional community engagement, capacity building through training programs, and timely procurement of intelligence by collaborating with informal policing outfits.
In the crime synopsis for the year 2024, the command reported significant achievements, including the arrest of 721 suspects for various offenses such as armed robbery, sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), kidnapping, and theft. Additionally, the recovery of unexploded explosive devices, stolen vehicles, firearms, and drugs showcased the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
Looking ahead to 2025, CP Lawal shared the command’s projection to reduce crime by at least 30% in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police. The focus will be on ensuring the safety and security of Maiduguri Metropolis and other major towns in the state, as well as prioritizing the reintegration of displaced communities and building the resilience of returnees.
To achieve these objectives, the command will enhance the transitional justice system, coordinate security clearance operations, and provide Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness Education to community members. The support of the state government and other partners in renovating police stations and barracks will further boost the morale of officers in service delivery.
CP Lawal expressed gratitude to His Excellency the Executive Governor of Borno State Prof Babagana Umara Zulum CON for his support to the Borno State Police Command and the legislative measures taken to expedite the prosecution processes.
The CP thanked the people of Borno State for their increased security awareness and vigilance in safeguarding their neighborhoods from crime and social vices.
He assured the public of the command’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and quality service delivery in the pursuit of a safer and more secure Borno State.
