POLICE FOIL ABDUCTION, RECOVER GUN IN A’IBOM CLASH

Borno State Government

The Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom has rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered a firearm following a swift operation in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.

Police said the victims—identified as Sunday, 68, and Samuel, 41—were abducted during a violent clash between residents of Edem Idim Okpot and Odoro Atasung villages over a disputed palm fruit plantation.

Acting on intelligence, operatives stormed the suspects’ hideout in the early hours, forcing the abductors to flee and abandon their captives, who were rescued unharmed and reunited with their families.

A locally made gun and a live cartridge were recovered at the scene, while a manhunt has been launched for the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, warned communities against taking the law into their hands, noting that the dispute is already before a customary court.

Police have also summoned leaders of the affected communities for a peace meeting, as efforts intensify to restore calm and prevent further violence.
