From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu
The KMT Stakeholders’ Forum in Yobe State has reaffirmed its unwavering loyalty to its principal, Kashim Musa Tumsah, MFR, while calling for an urgent conclusion of ongoing political negotiations to determine the movement’s next direction.
The position was reached after extensive deliberations by stakeholders, who said the forum fully recognises that the KMT leadership is currently holding high-level discussions with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other major political parties.
According to the stakeholders, the negotiations are aimed at securing the most viable political pathway for the movement and protecting its interests as well as those of the people of Yobe State.
The forum therefore urged the KMT leadership to conclude the ongoing discussions before the end of August, assuring the leadership of its “unreserved support, consent, commitment, loyalty and absolute conformity” to whatever final decision is taken in the overall interest of the movement and the state.
The stakeholders further demanded that all members and supporters of the KMT be adequately briefed and carried along once a final political decision is reached.
They stressed that the grassroots would remain central to the KMT project, noting that the movement’s strength lies in the active participation and commitment of its supporters across the state.
Stakeholders Protest Alleged Harassment
The forum, however, expressed strong concern over what it described as targeted intimidation, discrimination and harassment of KMT supporters and their spouses in workplaces, businesses and civil service opportunities.
The stakeholders warned the Yobe State Government and supporters of the BMW political group against actions capable of deepening divisions within the APC and destabilising the party in the state.
“We issue a stern warning to the Yobe State Government and BMW supporters to desist from acts that will further divide and destabilise the APC in Yobe State,” the stakeholders said.
While insisting that the movement has the capacity to protect its political and economic interests, the forum said it had deliberately chosen restraint in the interest of peace and political stability.
The stakeholders appealed to the APC leadership to urgently intervene and address what they described as growing provocations before they escalate into deeper divisions within the party.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful political engagement, dialogue and consultation, saying the movement would continue to pursue its interests through legitimate democratic channels.
The forum directed that all political developments and negotiations should be closely monitored and that the eventual way forward should be finalised in consultation with Lawan M. Ibrahim, Director-General of the Yobe First Movement.
The stakeholders maintained that the KMT project remains alive and strong, with grassroots supporters expected to play a decisive role in determining its political future.
