Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has sworn in 19 new Permanent Secretaries to fill existing vacancies and strengthen the state civil service.
The swearing in ceremony was held at the International Conference Centre in Gombe in accordance with the provisions of the Public Service Rules
The newly appointed Permanent Secretaries are seasoned public servants who have risen through the ranks to reach the peak of their careers in the civil service.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Inuwa Yahaya said his administration had, since assuming office in 2019, appointed and sworn in a total of 55 Permanent Secretaries.
He reaffirmed that a strong, motivated and professional civil service was critical to the success of any administration.
The governor said his administration had recruited teachers, established the Bureau of Public Service Reforms and would soon commence a massive recruitment exercise into the state public service.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya also disclosed that his administration had so far paid about 33 billion naira in gratuities, following the huge backlog inherited from the previous administration.
He assured workers that the government remained committed to clearing all outstanding liabilities before the end of his administration.
The governor, however, warned civil servants against violating the code of conduct and other regulations governing the public service, stressing that erring officers would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the law.
He explained that two of the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries were recruited from outside the state career civil service one from the Federal Civil Service and the other from the academia.
According to him, the move was aimed at bringing fresh ideas, expertise and experience into the state public service.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya charged the new Permanent Secretaries and other civil servants to discharge their responsibilities with honesty, transparency and professionalism.
Earlier, the Secretary to the Gombe State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, said the appointments were made to fill existing vacancies and were based on competence and merit.
