Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider the decision to merge the Army University, Biu, with the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.
The Oronsaye report, approved by President Tinubu, recommended the merger of several government agencies, including the Army University, Biu.
Governor Zulum highlighted the importance of the university in providing education to the people of Borno State, especially considering the challenges faced due to the prolonged crisis.
He urged the President to maintain the autonomy of the Army University, Biu, or allow the Federal Ministry of Education to take it over as a conventional university.
Additionally, Governor Zulum emphasized the significance of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) in the Federal Government’s efforts to revive agriculture and enhance food security.
He commended NCAM’s role in fabricating agricultural machinery and urged the Federal Government to reconsider its decision, particularly by situating NCAM under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Science.
The Governor underscored the crucial role NCAM plays in promoting sustainable agriculture and supporting the President’s mandate for food security.
