The Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State, has fixed July 28, 2026, for the further mention of a suit filed by an All Progressives Congress (APC) Zamfara North Senatorial aspirant, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, challenging the conduct of the party’s primary election.
The suit, which lists the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC, and Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura as defendants, seeks to contest the validity of the primary that produced Senator Kaura as the party’s candidate.
When the matter came up for mention before presiding judge, Justice Hassan Dikko, the court observed that two of the defendants the APC and INEC were absent and had not been properly served with the court processes.
Consequently, Justice Dikko adjourned the case to July 28, 2026, for further mention. The court also directed that all the defendants be duly served and granted them time to file their responses ahead of the next hearing.
Addressing journalists after the proceedings, counsel to the third defendant, Senator Kaura, Barr. J.C. Shaka, disclosed that he had already filed a motion urging the court to dismiss the suit. He argued that no valid senatorial primary election was conducted in Zamfara North that produced his client as the winner.
On his part, counsel to the plaintiff, Barr. Bello Galadi, confirmed that the case came up for mention. He expressed optimism that justice would prevail once all parties are present in court.
“We still repeat our demand for justice before the court over the purported senatorial primary election which produced the third defendant as winner. The election was full of irregularities due to refusal to comply with the provisions guiding the exercise,” Galadi said.
