Yobe State emerged as one of the biggest winners at the 2026 Arewa Media Summit in Kano, earning widespread commendation for its vibrant participation, strategic contributions, and commitment to advancing responsible media practice across Northern Nigeria.

The summit, held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, brought together top journalists, media executives, digital content creators, filmmakers, public relations professionals, communication experts, and government media aides to discuss the evolving role of the media in promoting national unity, development, and responsible public discourse.

According to a statement by Yusuf Ali, Focal Person on Digital and Strategic Communication to Governor Mai Mala Buni, the Yobe delegation was led by Prof. Sheriff Almuhajir alongside the APC Youth Leader in the state, Hon. Mohammed Musa Gulani.

Governor Mai Mala Buni, who was invited as a Special Guest of Honour, was initially scheduled to be represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje. However, Prof. Almuhajir represented the state after the SSG was unable to attend due to unavoidable circumstances.

The summit was convened by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Public Enlightenment, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, and attracted governors and government representatives from Kebbi, Jigawa, Kaduna and other northern states.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, declared the summit open, while the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idriss, delivered the keynote address, stressing the media’s crucial role in promoting national cohesion, countering misinformation, strengthening democracy, and supporting national development.

Throughout the sessions, the Yobe delegation stood out with insightful contributions to discussions on digital communication, strategic media engagement, public enlightenment, and the media’s role in fostering peace, security, and sustainable development.

The state’s impressive performance underscored Governor Buni’s administration’s commitment to strengthening strategic communication, embracing digital innovation, and building stronger partnerships with media stakeholders.

The delegation returned from Kano with new professional networks, fresh ideas, and renewed partnerships expected to further enhance media practice, digital communication, and public engagement in Yobe State.
