Troops Kill Bandit, Rescue Victim in Zamfara Raid

Borno State Government

A swift counterattack by security forces has foiled a bandit assault in Zamfara State, leaving one suspect dead and a kidnapped victim rescued in a dramatic overnight operation.

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, working alongside a joint police tactical team, repelled an early morning invasion on Dankabali Village in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, following a distress call from residents.

Security sources revealed that at about 3:00 a.m. on April 30, no fewer than 20 heavily armed bandits riding on 10 motorcycles stormed the community in Kagara District, abducting four residents in a coordinated raid that sent shockwaves through the area.

The victims were identified as Ladan Mani Sarkin Diya, Halima Mani, Rabiatu Muhammad, and Karima Muhammad.

Acting swiftly, troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA launched a search-and-rescue mission, tracking the assailants into a nearby forest where they engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel during a combing operation.

In the ensuing exchange of fire, one of the bandits was neutralised, forcing others to flee with gunshot wounds, while security forces gained the upper hand in the confrontation.

Amid the chaos, one of the abducted victims, Ladan Mani Sarkin Diya, was successfully rescued unharmed. He was immediately taken to the General Hospital in Talata Mafara for medical checks before being reunited with his relieved family.

Security officials confirmed that operations are still ongoing to secure the release of the remaining three victims and track down the fleeing suspects.

In the wake of the attack, security presence has been significantly reinforced across the Dankabali axis, with intensified surveillance and patrols aimed at preventing further incursions.

The latest success underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies to push back against banditry in Zamfara and restore confidence in vulnerable communities frequently targeted by armed groups.
