Borno State Government

Tension flared into tragedy in Niger State as a violent communal clash between Fulani and Gwari youths claimed one life and left two others injured in Gambwa village, via Fuka area.

According to security sources, the deadly confrontation erupted on April 30 over a long-standing land dispute, with youths from both communities engaging in a fierce battle that quickly spiraled out of control.

The violence led to the destruction of property, as tents and makeshift homes were set ablaze, sending residents fleeing in panic and raising fresh concerns over communal tensions in the area.

Three victims—Safe Turaki, 45; Shuaibu Ahmadu, 25; and Nasiru Yahaya, 54—were caught in the chaos, sustaining varying degrees of injuries during the clash. They were immediately rushed to Kafin Koro Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Security operatives were swiftly deployed to the troubled community, where they restored calm and brought the situation under control. Their timely intervention prevented further escalation of the crisis.

Authorities have since launched a manhunt for those responsible for the violence, with investigations ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the clash and prevent a recurrence.

The incident underscores the persistent threat of communal disputes in parts of Niger State, where disagreements over land and resources continue to spark deadly confrontations, often with devastating consequences for local communities.
