Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued six kidnapped victims during separate operations in Kaduna and Katsina States.
The victims were rescued on Thursday, September 17, 2026, following swift responses by troops of Sectors 1 and 2 of the operation to intelligence and distress calls concerning terrorist activities in the two states.
In Kaduna State, troops of Sector 1 acting on intelligence about a kidnapping incident in Igabi Local Government Area encountered suspected terrorists moving with some kidnapped victims.
The terrorists reportedly fled in disarray after sighting the advancing troops, abandoning the victims in their haste to escape.
Three victims — Enock Hussaini, Abba Dauda and Kalif Haruna — were subsequently rescued.
According to the Joint Task Force, the victims were confirmed to have been abducted by terrorists at Gidan Gulbi Village on September 11, 2026.
They were later debriefed and reunited with their families, while troops maintained a strong presence in the area in continuation of efforts to prevent further attacks.
Similarly, in Katsina State, troops of Sector 2 responded to a distress call over the abduction of civilians along the Dandume-Damari axis in Dandume Local Government Area.
The troops quickly mobilised to the area and made contact with the terrorists, engaging them with what the military described as overwhelming firepower.
Unable to withstand the military response, the terrorists fled into nearby bushes, abandoning their victims.
Troops pursued the fleeing attackers and rescued three more kidnapped persons identified as Abubakar Abdulkadir, 25; Mansir Idris, 26; and Abubakar Aliyu, 21.
A black Golf vehicle belonging to the victims was also recovered during the operation.
The rescued victims were subsequently escorted and released to continue their journey.
The Joint Task Force said the latest operations demonstrate the continued efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect civilians, disrupt terrorist activities and restrict the freedom of action of criminal elements across its Joint Operations Area.
The military also commended members of the public for their continued support and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
