At least 72 people were reportedly killed after a military airstrike struck Tumfa Market in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, triggering outrage and grief across the affected community.
According to AFP, a community leader disclosed that the deadly incident occurred on Sunday, with dozens of traders and residents feared dead in the bombardment.
The source said many victims suffered severe injuries, while several bodies were reportedly “blown beyond recognition” following the impact of the strike.
Residents described scenes of chaos and devastation as survivors searched through the wreckage for missing relatives and loved ones.
The circumstances surrounding the airstrike and the intended target were still unclear at the time of reporting, while authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the casualty figures.
