MAIDUGURI — Nigerian troops have intensified the squeeze on terrorists in the North-East, rescuing six more abducted persons—including two infants—in a major breakthrough that underscores the military’s sustained offensive against insurgents.
The latest success came as troops of Operation HADIN KAI, backed by coordinated air and ground operations as well as credible intelligence, stormed Talakawa in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, where the victims were safely recovered.
Military authorities said the rescued victims, comprising four adults and two infants, were among those abducted in May from Mussa community in Askira/Uba Local Government Area. They have since been evacuated to a secure location, where they are receiving medical attention, psychological support and relief materials ahead of their reunion with family members.
The operation forms part of the military’s expanded search-and-rescue campaign following recent terrorist attacks in the North-East, including efforts to account for all victims of the abduction linked to Government Day Secondary School, Lassa.
As troops tightened their grip on the insurgents, the fleeing terrorists reportedly abandoned 50 rounds of PKT machine-gun ammunition while retreating under intense military pressure. Security sources described the recovery as further evidence that the sustained offensive is disrupting the operational capability of the insurgents and forcing them into a disorderly withdrawal.
The Theatre Command said the latest rescue reflects the growing effectiveness of the joint efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Borno State Government, other security agencies and local auxiliary forces in tracking down abducted victims and dismantling terrorist hideouts.
Despite the breakthrough, military authorities stressed that operations remain active, with troops continuing aggressive pursuit of the fleeing terrorists across their escape routes to ensure that every remaining captive is safely rescued.
Operation HADIN KAI also appealed to residents across the North-East to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies and ignore unverified reports capable of causing unnecessary panic.
The command reaffirmed that its forces remain committed to crushing terrorism, protecting communities and restoring lasting peace and security across the region.
