Residents of Lakwaya area in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State were thrown into mourning on Friday as funeral prayers were held for two persons killed during a deadly bandit attack on nearby communities.
The victims were reportedly shot dead when armed bandits invaded Unguwar Mahauta and Jajaye communities on Thursday, opening fire on residents and triggering widespread panic across the area.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the communities unexpectedly, forcing terrified residents to flee for safety as gunshots echoed through the villages.
The tragic incident left families devastated and heightened fears among locals already worried about growing insecurity in parts of the state.
Large crowds gathered for the funeral prayers amid grief and emotional scenes as community members prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls and called for urgent security intervention to prevent further attacks.
Residents also appealed to security agencies and the government to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable rural communities from recurring armed attacks and violence.
The latest attack has once again raised concerns over the increasing activities of armed groups targeting communities in parts of northern Nigeria.
