Fresh cracks have emerged in the Rivers State political landscape as three serving members of the House of Representatives loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara were reportedly disqualified by the APC House of Representatives screening committee ahead of the party primaries scheduled for tomorrow.
The development is being widely viewed as another major political setback for Governor Fubara in the ongoing power struggle within the Rivers APC structure.
The affected lawmakers — Hon. Anderson Alisson, Hon. Abiante Awaji Imombek, and Hon. Boma Goodhead — were among key political figures who openly sided with Governor Fubara during the prolonged political crisis that rocked Rivers State.
The trio were also part of the lawmakers who reportedly defected alongside the governor to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In contrast, several loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were cleared by the screening committee to participate in the primaries.
Among those cleared are Hon. Hart Cyril, Hon. Blessing Amadi, Hon. Dumnamene Detor, Hon. Solomon Bob, Hon. Uche Felix Nwaeke, and Hon. Victor Chukwuemele Obuzor.
Also cleared was Hon. Martin Amaewhule, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and a known ally of Wike, who is expected to replace O.K. Chinda following reports that Chinda purchased APC governorship nomination forms.
Sources within the party also disclosed that additional allies of the FCT minister were cleared to replace the disqualified lawmakers loyal to Governor Fubara.
Political observers say the latest development signals the continued dominance of the Wike camp within the APC structure in Rivers State and could further deepen internal tensions ahead of future elections.
Meanwhile, another pro-Fubara lawmaker, Hon. Boniface Sunday Emerengwa, is said to have obtained Senate nomination forms, although the final list of cleared aspirants is yet to be officially released.
The unfolding political drama is expected to intensify ahead of the APC primaries as rival camps continue their battle for control and influence within the party in Rivers State.
