The Quiz and Spelling Bee Competition organised for Government Day Junior Secondary Schools (GDJSS) across nine LGAs of Yobe State was aimed at promoting academic excellence and environmental sustainability.
The Programme Manager of North East Arid Zone Development Programme (NEAZDP), Dr. Mulima Idi Mato, stated these while commenting participants for their outstanding performances and encouraged them to sustain the spirit of academic excellence.
He said, ” therefore, the competition which is being conducted in three zones—Bade, Nguru and Geidam was intended to promoting studying habit and inclusiveness among students”.
“The second round took place in the Nguru Zone which featured schools from Nguru, Karasuwa and Machina Local Government Areas”.
“As part of the programme’s environmental sustainability initiative, mango and neem tree seedlings were distributed to participating students and schools to encourage tree planting and environmental conservation”.
“NEAZDP will revisit the participating schools in December to assess the growth and maintenance of the seedlings”.
“Special awards would be presented to the student and school that demonstrate the highest level of commitment to nurturing the trees”.
The Quiz and Spelling Bee Competition has since ended in Nguru Zone.
GDJSS Girgiri emerged overall winner while GDJSS Central and GDJSS Maidunoma maintained second and third positions respectively.
