In a proactive move to bolster national security and combat criminal activities linked to the misuse of tinted glass, the Nigeria Police Force has completed a comprehensive review of the issuance of tinted glass permits. The ban on such permits, imposed in June 2022, is set to be lifted with stringent measures in place to prevent abuse and ensure strict compliance.
Recognizing the role of tinted glass in aiding crimes like kidnapping, armed robbery, illegal firearm transportation, and human trafficking, the police are reintroducing the permit system. To ensure effective implementation, ICT Analysts and Enforcement Officers nationwide will undergo specialized training on February 29, 2024.
The training aims to equip officers with the skills needed to regulate the registration process, guide applicants on portal usage, address public complaints, and enforce compliance effectively. It emphasizes maintaining a balance between public safety, individual freedoms, and national security.
The proposed tinted glass permit will feature distinctive elements to enhance enforcement and security. These include a QR code for real-time verification, unique serial numbers linked to vehicle and owner details, and a digital hologram for authenticity. The guidelines align with the provisions of the MOTOR VEHICLES (PROHIBITION OF TINTED GLASS) ACT 1991 and other relevant laws.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, affirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to transparency and accountability in implementing the revised tinted glass permit issuance process. Updates will be provided to the public to ensure clear communication on this critical matter.
