In a major breakthrough against cattle rustling, the Katsina State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered rustled livestock in coordinated operations across the state.
The feat, achieved under the leadership of CP Ali Umar Fage, follows the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on intelligence-driven policing and tighter security in vulnerable areas.
Police operatives on patrol swooped on three suspects at Tudun Iya village along Maska Road in Funtua LGA, intercepting them with 18 suspected stolen cows. The suspects reportedly failed to account for the animals and later confessed they were rustled, naming an alleged buyer, who was swiftly tracked and arrested by the police.
In a separate operation, officers responded to a distress call over a bandit attack on Kwandawa and Tigaga villages in Kankia LGA. The attackers, who stormed the communities on motorcycles, were engaged in a fierce gun duel by police teams. Overpowered, the bandits fled with injuries, abandoning the stolen cattle, which were successfully recovered.
The Command confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, while those in custody will face prosecution after investigations.
Commending the operatives for bravery and professionalism, CP Fage reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to rid the state of criminal elements and safeguard lives and property. He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
