In a proactive measure to enhance compliance and streamline import processes, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has introduced a 90-day window for regularizing import duties on specific categories of vehicles.
This initiative is applicable to vehicles imported into Nigeria with outstanding customs duties or those detained due to undervaluation.
However, it does not cover vehicles that have been seized and condemned, which will be forfeited to the Federal Government.
Vehicle owners, importers, and agents looking to regularize import duties must apply to the Zonal Coordinators or CAC FCT Command, submitting the required documents and processing Vehicle Registration (Vreg) following the directives of the Federal Ministry of Finance.
Valuation and assessment of the vehicles will be based on the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) method, with import duty and a 25% penalty paid in line with import guidelines and procedures. Duty payments must use the specific Procedure Code created for this exercise.
This initiative underscores the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to facilitating compliance, and stakeholders are urged to take advantage of this opportunity within the stipulated timeframe.
