In a bid to promote compliance and alleviate economic burdens, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has introduced a 90-day amnesty window, effective from March 4th to July 5th, 2024, for the regularisation of import duties on specific categories of vehicles.
Under the directives of the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, the NCS has suspended the 25% penalty previously imposed on improperly imported vehicles, in addition to import duty charges.
Stakeholders including vehicle owners, importers, and agents are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to regularise import duty payments within the designated 90-day period.
This initiative aims to encourage compliance while providing relief to individuals and businesses affected by import duty penalties.
Abdullahi Maiwada, Chief Superintendent of Customs and National Public Relations Officer, announced this significant development, emphasizing the NCS’s commitment to facilitating trade and ensuring regulatory compliance in the importation of vehicles.
This decision marks a proactive step towards fostering a conducive business environment and supporting economic activities within the automotive importation sector.
