Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have foiled a fresh terrorist attack and rescued nine captives in the rugged Mandara Mountains of Borno State, reinforcing ongoing military gains against insurgents.
Security sources said the operation, executed by soldiers of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion in Ngoshe under Operation Desert Sanity, led to the successful rescue of women and children held by suspected Boko Haram fighters.
The breakthrough was quickly followed by a retaliatory move by the terrorists, who reportedly launched an attack around 10:20 a.m. from the Gava axis in a bid to re-abduct the freed victims.
However, troops responded with swift and coordinated firepower, decisively repelling the attackers and thwarting their plans.
The encounter highlights the continued intensity of operations in the Mandara axis, as security forces sustain pressure on insurgent strongholds while rescuing civilians from captivity.
Military sources say clearance and rescue missions will persist as part of broader efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore stability across the region.
