The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the mysterious death of a prominent cleric, Pastor Etetim Udo, Founder and General Overseer of Power in the Word of God for the World Ministries in Oron, following the discovery of his lifeless body inside the church premises.
The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the Oron community, was reported to the police on the morning of Thursday, July 23, after a resident noticed an unusual gathering at the church where he routinely parks his motorcycle.
According to the police, the resident was informed by the pastor’s children that their father had allegedly died by suicide, prompting security operatives to immediately respond to the scene.
Investigators said they professionally secured the area, documented the scene, recovered relevant exhibits for forensic examination and evacuated the deceased to a hospital, where medical personnel confirmed him dead. His remains have since been deposited at the mortuary pending an autopsy.
While preliminary observations suggest a suspected case of suicide, the police stressed that no conclusion has been reached and that detectives are exploring every possible angle to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the cleric’s death.
Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, assured residents that the investigation would be thorough, transparent and guided strictly by professional standards to ensure that the truth is established.
He appealed to members of the public with credible information that could assist investigators to come forward, while cautioning against the spread of rumours, misinformation or speculation capable of undermining the investigation or creating unnecessary public anxiety.
The Command reiterated its commitment to conducting a comprehensive investigation and ensuring justice is served, while reaffirming its resolve to protect lives and property across Akwa Ibom State.
