In a move signaling deepening divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State, a faction led by the 2023 gubernatorial candidate, Yakubu Lado, has elected new officials in a congress held at the state party secretariat.

The congress, chaired by Ilu Bello, saw Nura Kurfi emerge as the new PDP chairman for the state.

“We had INEC’s presence to validate our election of 39 positions across state, zonal, and local levels,” Ilu Bello announced, emphasizing the legitimacy of the process.

In his acceptance speech, Kurfi pledged to mend internal fractures and lead the PDP to victory in the 2027 general elections. “We will rebuild PDP and reclaim Katsina,” Kurfi declared.

Notably absent from the congress were key PDP figures, including House of Representatives member Salisu Majigiri, Senator Ibrahim Tsauri, and Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, sparking further speculation about ongoing factionalism within the party.

A source confirmed their absence, stating, “We are not part of the Lado team; we align with Mustapha Inuwa.”

The absence of these party heavyweights highlights the growing rift within Katsina’s PDP as the 2027 elections loom.
