The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe State Council, has inaugurated a five-man electoral committee to conduct its November 2026 council election, with its leadership charging members to ensure a free, fair and credible process.

The committee was inaugurated by the State Chairman, Comrade Rajab Mohammed Ismael, following its constitution and endorsement at the council’s Congress meeting held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the Mai Mala Buni Conference Hall, NUJ Press Centre, Damaturu.

The meeting attracted more than 80 members, who endorsed the committee’s composition as part of preparations for the election of a new set of executive officers to steer the affairs of the council.

Inaugurating the committee, Ismael urged members to discharge their responsibilities with fairness, transparency and impartiality, warning them against favouritism and partisan conduct.

He charged the committee to operate independently and ensure that every contestant was treated equally, stressing that the credibility of the election would depend on the integrity and professionalism demonstrated by those entrusted with conducting it.

The chairman further emphasised the need for a transparent electoral process capable of strengthening unity and confidence among members of the union.

Musa said the committee members had reputations and professional integrity to protect, adding that they were determined to conduct the exercise in a manner that would uphold the values and reputation of the NUJ.

He also reminded members that the union remained one family, irrespective of individual ambitions or differences, assuring all contestants of a level playing field throughout the electoral process.

The electoral committee is chaired by Mohammed Usman Mandama of YTV Chapel, while Mustapha Yusuf Musa of NTA Damaturu serves as secretary.

Other members are Ibrahim Adamu Saleh of Information Chapel, Hajja Fati of YBC and Michael Oshoma of the Correspondents’ Chapel.

The NUJ Yobe State Council election is expected to hold in November 2026, with the committee tasked with overseeing the process of electing the council’s next executive leadership.
