Panic has gripped residents of Ekiti State following the abduction of the Vice-Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Grace Ogunleye, by suspected gunmen along the Ipere–Iludun road.
Sources said the council official was kidnapped on Wednesday while returning from an official engagement when armed attackers intercepted her vehicle on the lonely route.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns over growing insecurity and the increasing wave of abductions targeting public officials and commuters on Nigerian roads.
Residents and political associates were thrown into anxiety as news of the abduction spread across the state, with calls mounting for swift security action to secure her release and apprehend the perpetrators.
Security agencies are yet to officially comment on the development, but efforts are reportedly ongoing to track the kidnappers and rescue the council vice-chair alive.
