Funtua Residents Demand Fence Around Fire Service Office Over Flood, Security Fears

Borno State Government

Residents living opposite the Katsina State Fire Service office in Funtua have appealed to the Ministry for Internal Security and Home Affairs to urgently fence the facility, citing rising security threats and recurring flooding in the area.

Some of the affected residents, including Malam Abdullahi Muhammed and Yusuf Samaila, said the absence of a perimeter fence around the fire service premises has exposed nearby communities to environmental and safety challenges for years.

According to them, unrestricted movement through the open premises has become a major security concern, especially at night when unknown persons allegedly use the area as a passage route, creating fear among residents.

The community members also lamented that during the rainy season, floodwater from the open compound flows directly into surrounding homes, causing destruction of property and hardship for families.

They said repeated complaints to relevant authorities had yet to yield any meaningful intervention, leaving residents vulnerable ahead of the peak of the rainy season.

The residents further stressed that constructing a proper drainage system alongside fencing the premises would help prevent water encroachment and improve security within the neighborhood.

They therefore called on the Katsina State Ministry for Internal Security and Home Affairs and other concerned authorities to urgently address the situation and provide lasting solutions to the growing challenges facing the community.
