The European Union, EU funded consortium, comprising of Plan International (PI), Save the Children International (SCI) and Dispute Resolution and Development Initiative (DRDI-DAG) have moved to establish peace clubs in Kano schools in order to inculcate peace knowledge among the students.
The Executive Director,DAG, Dr. Mustapha Yahaya made this known during a 3-day training for Peace Club facilitators and teachers from selected schools across the state.
Dr.Muhammad Yahaya who was represented by his Program Manager, Abdulbaki Muhammad said the program was to cascade peace knowledge and encourage the students to grow enthusiastic about contributing to peace building and becoming peace ambassadors.
In his speech “the main aims for the establishment of the peace club is to cascade peace knowledge to young children so that they will grow up with the enthusiasm for them to contribute towards peace building in our communities and also become peace ambassadors,” Dr. Yahaya said.
In his Remarks the lead facilitator, Aliyu Adamu, said the program aims to train mentors to establish and ensure coordination of peace clubs in schools, focusing on the Junior Secondary School (JSS) level to promote a culture of tolerance, understanding, and unity among different ethnic groups.
He said that the program will also empower young individuals to become agents of change in their schools and communities as well as create a more peaceful and prosperous state through education and community engagement.
