The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to transfer former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to the Nigeria Correctional Centre in Kuje to begin serving his 75-year jail sentence.
Justice James Omotosho issued the directive after the EFCC presented the fugitive former minister before the court and filed a consequential order seeking the forfeiture of five additional properties linked to him.
Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation and prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), told the court that the application, dated May 25, 2026, sought the forfeiture of the newly discovered assets traced to Mamman.
Justice Omotosho informed the former minister that his prison sentence would take immediate effect following the proceedings.
Explaining his absence during earlier court sessions, Mamman claimed he had been away due to ill health.
Drama, however, unfolded in court as Mamman’s lead counsel, Femi Atteh (SAN), failed to appear. A representative sent on his behalf reportedly refused to accept the forfeiture application and walked out of the courtroom without notifying the court or prosecution team.
Ruling on the matter, Justice Omotosho said the forfeiture application would be adjourned in the interest of fair hearing.
The EFCC had prosecuted Mamman on an amended 12-count charge bordering on money laundering and the purchase of multi-million naira properties outside the financial system, involving over ₦33 billion.
