The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports describing Haruna Garba Gololo, popularly known as Garus Gololo, as a retired General, warning against what it called misleading and inaccurate reportage.
In a disclaimer issued on Tuesday, the Army reacted to a publication by Sahara Reporters titled, “Retired Nigerian Army General Arrested in Abuja After Criticising Senate President Akpabio Over 2027 Comments.”
The Army categorically stated that Gololo is neither a retired officer nor a General in the Nigerian Army, describing the claim as false and capable of misleading the public.
“The portrayal of the individual as a retired General of the Nigerian Army is false, misleading, and capable of creating wrong impressions in the minds of the public,” the statement said.
The Army urged media organisations to uphold professionalism by verifying facts before publication, especially on issues concerning the Armed Forces and national institutions.
It also called on relevant media platforms to immediately correct the misrepresentation to prevent the spread of misinformation capable of undermining public trust and institutional integrity.
Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and transparency, the Nigerian Army said it remains focused on defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
