Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries, alleging widespread electoral irregularities and voter disenfranchisement.
Amaechi, in a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, described the results of the party’s presidential primaries as “concocted,” insisting that the process fell short of fairness and transparency.
The former minister said he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the exercise if it was conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner.
“I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” Amaechi declared. “I had initially stated that I will only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word.”
Amaechi further alleged that nearly 80 per cent of party members across the country were denied the opportunity to participate in the exercise.
“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results. Then what makes us different from the others?” he queried.
The development has triggered fresh tension within the ADC, with concerns emerging over the credibility of the party’s internal democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
