Security operatives have intercepted a suspected arms courier with 100 rounds of live ammunition along the Zamfara–Katsina border, in a major breakthrough against illegal weapons trafficking.
The suspect, identified as Umar Sani, was arrested during a stop-and-search operation at the Yankara axis in Zamfara State, following actionable intelligence.
Authorities disclosed that the 30-year-old, who was travelling on a motorcycle from Abuja to his hometown in Gusau LGA, concealed the ammunition—7.62mm rounds for AK-47 rifles—inside the motorcycle’s fuel tank.
The discovery was made after a thorough search by vigilant operatives, leading to his immediate arrest.
Security sources confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody, with investigations ongoing to unravel the source of the ammunition and possible links to a wider criminal network.
Officials described the interception as part of intensified efforts to choke the supply of illegal arms fueling banditry and violence across the region, urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely information.
