Governors serving their first term under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have declared unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, insisting that Nigeria must stay the course despite widespread economic hardship.
The governors reached the resolution after a closed-door meeting in Birnin Kebbi, hosted by Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, where they also pledged to sustain the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda beyond the 2027 general elections.
In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the governors acknowledged the economic pain being experienced by Nigerians but maintained that reversing the reforms would jeopardize the country’s long-term recovery.
According to them, the difficult decisions taken by the Tinubu administration are aimed at rebuilding the nation’s economy and laying a solid foundation for sustainable growth.
The governors appealed to Nigerians to remain patient and united, stressing that the current sacrifices would ultimately yield lasting benefits.
“The real choice before the nation is not whether reforms are painful, but whether Nigeria should abandon them midway or remain committed while expanding relief for vulnerable citizens,” the communique stated.
Beyond the economy, the APC governors expressed concern over the country’s security challenges and pledged stronger collaboration with the Federal Government to tackle insecurity and protect lives and property across the federation.
They also condemned recent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa, describing such acts as unacceptable. The governors called for thorough investigations, protection of law-abiding foreign nationals, and justice in line with international law and diplomatic norms.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by the governors to strengthen democratic governance, foster inclusive economic development, and preserve Nigeria’s unity as the country prepares for the next electoral cycle.
