…. Reaffirms Policy Against Foreign Bases Amid Fake Reports

The Defence Headquarters has strongly refuted online reports suggesting the establishment of a French military base in Maiduguri, Northeast Nigeria.
In a statement on Monday, the Armed Forces of Nigeria described the claims as “fake, totally false, and mischievous,” urging the public to dismiss the allegations.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, had earlier addressed the issue during multiple media engagements, categorically debunking the rumors and emphasizing that no such plans exist.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stating that any claims of foreign military involvement in the country are baseless and designed to mislead the public.
To further clarify its stance, the Defence Headquarters reiterated its policy against hosting foreign military bases on Nigerian soil. It stressed that any discussions involving foreign collaborations in security matters are limited to partnerships, training, and intelligence-sharing, as opposed to the establishment of permanent bases.
The statement warned individuals and groups spreading such rumors to desist, as their actions undermine national security efforts and create unnecessary public tension.
The Armed Forces assured Nigerians that it remains steadfast in its constitutional duties, working tirelessly to ensure peace and stability across the country.
