Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged politicians and Nigerians to approach the 2027 political season with maturity, tolerance and patriotism, warning against inflammatory rhetoric capable of threatening the nation’s peace and stability.
Speaking with journalists shortly after observing the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Ramat Square Eid Ground in Maiduguri, Borno State, Shettima said political actors must place national unity above personal or partisan interests.
“As we enter the political phase, there is a need for maturity, forbearance and generosity of spirit in our political interactions,” the Vice President declared.
“We must avoid inflammatory statements and actions capable of overheating the polity because what binds us together as Nigerians supersedes whatever divides us.”
Shettima also assured Nigerians that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is taking deliberate steps to ease the economic hardship facing citizens through reforms and targeted interventions.
According to him, governments at all levels are working to cushion the effects of economic challenges and improve living conditions for Nigerians.
The Vice President appealed to citizens to remain patient and continue supporting ongoing efforts to stabilise the economy, strengthen security and expand opportunities across the country.
He further urged Nigerians to pray for lasting peace and unity, stressing that global tensions, including the crisis in the Middle East, should remind citizens of the importance of national solidarity.
“Let there be peace in the land. Let us continue to pray for peace not only in Borno State but in every nook and cranny of Nigeria,” he said.
Shettima observed the Eid prayers alongside Borno State Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari, members of the National Assembly and other top government officials.
Shortly after the prayers, Kadafur paid a traditional Sallah homage to the Vice President at his Maiduguri residence, commending him for his continued support to the government and people of Borno State.
