Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has paid glowing tribute to late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a patriotic leader whose commitment to defeating insurgency restored hope to millions of people in Nigeria’s North-East.
Governor Zulum made the remarks on Monday in Abuja while joining other prominent Nigerians at the one-year remembrance anniversary held in honour of the late President.
Reflecting on Buhari’s years in office, Zulum recalled that the former President inherited a region devastated by insurgency but remained resolute in confronting the security crisis and rebuilding confidence among affected communities.
The governor said he had the privilege of working closely with Buhari and could personally attest to the late leader’s genuine concern for the welfare of the people of Borno State.
According to Zulum, Buhari’s repeated visits to Borno at the height of the insurgency sent a powerful message of solidarity, lifted the morale of residents and strengthened the resolve of security personnel on the frontlines of the anti-terrorism campaign.
He described the former President as a leader distinguished by integrity, discipline and patriotism, whose unwavering dedication to national service left an enduring imprint on Nigeria’s history.
Zulum further said Buhari’s contributions to national unity, peace and stability would remain part of his enduring legacy, adding that his leadership, sacrifice and commitment to public service would continue to inspire generations of Nigerians.
