The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Zamfara State Chapter has called on the federal and state governments to act immediately to halt the worsening attacks in border areas, following Friday’s deadly raid and mass abduction in Kasuwar Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
In a statement issued and signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Kasim Almustapha Kayatawa, the party said it received “with shock and deep sorrow” news of the attack on the Kasuwar Daji Area Development Council. According to the statement, an unknown number of residents were abducted, with others killed and injured.
State Chairman, Alhaji Surajo Garba Mai Katako, said the incident underscores how vulnerable rural communities have become.
“The killing, maiming, and kidnapping of innocent citizens is unacceptable,” Mai Katako stated. “This unfortunate incident is yet another reminder of the fragile security situation in our state. Our people can no longer live in fear.”
The NDC is pressing government at all levels to adopt a three-point emergency response:
The Zamfara State Government should increase patrols, intensify intelligence gathering, and provide direct support for local vigilantes in Kaura Namoda LGA and all border communities.
The Federal Government and security agencies should deploy additional personnel and modern equipment to Zamfara to “decisively end banditry and kidnapping.”
Citizens and community leaders must work with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to prevent future occurrences.
The party emphasized that “the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government” and that residents deserve to “farm, trade, and live peacefully without the threat of attack or abduction.”
On behalf of the party, Mai Katako extended condolences to the families of those affected, the people of Kasuwar Daji, Kaura Namoda LGA, and the Zamfara State Government. He prayed for “Aljannah Firdaus for the deceased, quick recovery for the injured, and the safe return of those kidnapped.”
The NDC said it stands in solidarity with victims and remains committed to advocating for “peace, justice, and responsive governance.”
Kaura Namoda, a border LGA, has suffered repeated attacks in recent years. The fallout has been severe: many farmers have abandoned their fields and traders have shut down markets, crippling livelihoods across the communities.
“May Allah restore lasting peace to our state and country,” the statement concluded.
