Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have dismissed speculations of a leadership shake-up within the APC Governors’ Forum, passing a resounding vote of confidence in Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as chairman of the forum.
The endorsement came during a closed-door meeting held at the Imo State Governors’ Lodge in Abuja, where 16 APC governors physically present reaffirmed their loyalty to Uzodimma amid reports alleging a change in the forum’s leadership.
Rumours had emerged Thursday night claiming that some members of the forum had announced Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah as the new leader of the governors’ bloc, sparking widespread political speculation.
However, speaking with journalists after the meeting, the APC governors moved swiftly to debunk the reports and reaffirm the existing leadership structure of the forum.
Governors at the meeting included those of Ondo, Gombe, Kaduna, Taraba, Edo, Sokoto, Ebonyi, Borno, Lagos, Kogi, Kano, Yobe, Kebbi, Benue, and Jigawa states, while Nasarawa State was represented by its deputy governor.
The Taraba State governor was said to have attended briefly before leaving after a short meeting with the host governor.
Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris formally moved the motion for the vote of confidence, declaring that Governor Hope Uzodimma remains the chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, while Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani continues as deputy chairman.
The development is seen as a strong show of unity within the ruling party’s governors amid growing political realignments ahead of future political contests.
