In a heated session at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Justice Emeka Nwite adjourned the arraignment of former Kogi State governor Yahaya Adoza Bello to June 27, 2024.
The proceedings, originally set for June 13, were postponed due to a dispute between the EFCC and defense counsel over the scheduled date.
EFCC prosecution counsel Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, accused the defense of failing to bring Bello to court, a claim defense counsel Adeola Adedipe, SAN, contested, citing a supposed agreement for rescheduling.
Despite the defense’s apology, Justice Nwite insisted on the new date for Bello’s plea.
Bello, along with his nephew Ali Bello, Dauda Suleiman, and Abdulsalam Hudu, faces 19-count charges of laundering N80.2 billion.
The case continues to unfold as both parties prepare for the next court appearance.
