The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned one Mohammed Abdullahi Korimi before the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri over an alleged N25.6 million fraud involving 400 bags of beans.
Korimi was docked before Justice Aisha Kumaliya on a two-count charge bordering on criminal misappropriation and obtaining by false pretence.
According to the charge, the defendant allegedly obtained the consignment valued at N25,647,000 from a trader under the guise of supplying it to customers in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, with a promise to pay within one week—a claim prosecutors say he knew to be false.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecution counsel, S.O. Saka, urged the court to fix a trial date and remand the defendant, a request granted by the court.
Justice Kumaliya adjourned the matter to April 22, 2026, for hearing of the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility pending further proceedings.
The case has drawn attention to rising cases of commodity-related fraud in the region, particularly involving bulk agricultural supplies.
