Lake Chad Offensive: Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon Unite Against Terror

Borno State Government

In a major show of regional force, Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon have launched a coordinated military offensive targeting insurgent strongholds across the Lake Chad Basin.

The joint operation, code-named “Lake Sanity III,” brings together both air and ground troops in a renewed push against Islamic State West Africa Province and Boko Haram fighters entrenched in the region.

Military sources indicate that the operation is focused on dismantling terrorist logistics bases, disrupting supply routes, and flushing out hideouts long used by insurgents around the volatile basin.

This marks the first large-scale collaborative assault by the four nations since diplomatic tensions eased following political developments in Niger in 2023, signaling a renewed commitment to regional security cooperation.

Security analysts say the success of the operation could significantly weaken insurgent networks and restore stability in one of Africa’s most troubled conflict zones.
