Former Minister Yusuf Tuggar has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of abandoning democratic principles in Bauchi State, alleging that no governorship primary election was conducted before Muhammad Abubakar emerged as the party’s candidate.
Tuggar claimed that APC National Chairman informed party stakeholders that Abubakar had already been selected, insisting the decision was backed by President Bola Tinubu.
The former minister further alleged that Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate personally lobbied the President to block his ambition to contest the APC governorship ticket.
Describing the process as undemocratic, Tuggar said party members were denied the opportunity to choose their candidate through a transparent primary election.
“This is not democracy. The President should not be choosing governorship candidates for us. We did not conduct primaries; we were simply told that Tinubu had chosen Abubakar as the APC governorship candidate for Bauchi State,” he stated.
The allegations have sparked fresh controversy within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, raising concerns over internal party democracy and the selection of candidates.
