Security forces have rescued two kidnapped farm workers and neutralised one of their suspected abductors during a joint operation in Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The operation, involving troops of the Nigerian Army’s 65 Battalion, personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, was launched after security authorities received information about the abduction around Igbonla.
The victims, identified as Kelvin Okafor and Alex Anato, were reportedly working on their farm when they were seized by the kidnappers.
Acting swiftly on the information, the joint security team moved into the area and eventually came face-to-face with the kidnappers, who were still holding the two victims.
However, the suspects reportedly abandoned their captives and fled into the surrounding forest after sighting the approaching security personnel.
The troops and other members of the team immediately gave chase, resulting in an encounter during which one of the suspected kidnappers was neutralised, while two others managed to escape into the bush.
The rescued victims were found unharmed and subsequently handed over to the Police for further action.
The remains of the neutralised suspect were also transferred to the Police for investigation and other necessary procedures.
The operation highlights the importance of rapid intelligence sharing and strong cooperation between security agencies and local communities in confronting kidnapping and other criminal activities, particularly in vulnerable areas.
Security authorities have continued to urge residents to promptly report suspicious movements and provide credible information that could assist ongoing efforts to protect communities and disrupt criminal networks.
