Kaduna — In a heartwarming gesture aimed at lifting the spirits of wounded and recuperating troops, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 1 Joint Task Force, Operation Fansan Yamma, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Sadique Muhammed Wase, has brought music and entertainment to soldiers receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna.
The special musical therapy programme, held on Thursday, September 3, offered wounded personnel a rare opportunity to step away from the routine of hospital treatment and reconnect through music, laughter and camaraderie.
The initiative was organised in keeping with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy and the Nigerian Army’s “Soldier First” culture, with particular emphasis on the welfare and wellbeing of troops who have paid a heavy price in the line of duty.
The programme was designed to provide psychosocial support and help boost the morale of personnel recovering from injuries and other combat-related conditions sustained during military operations.
The atmosphere at the hospital changed noticeably as the 1 Division Band, led by Lt.-Col. S.C. Enwemuche, took centre stage with live musical performances.
For the recuperating soldiers, the melodies provided more than entertainment. The session offered a moment of relief, relaxation and renewed fellowship among men and women undergoing challenging recovery processes.
Soldiers turned out in large numbers to participate in the programme, with the music creating an atmosphere of joy and unity within the hospital environment.
The gesture also drew appreciation from beneficiaries, who commended the GOC for remembering troops even as they battled the physical and emotional consequences of their service.
The soldiers described the initiative as a demonstration that their sacrifices and welfare remained important to the Army leadership.
Some of the beneficiaries appealed for the musical therapy sessions to become a regular feature at the hospital, saying continued recreational and psychosocial activities could contribute positively to the morale and recovery of wounded personnel.
The event ended on a cheerful note with refreshments, further musical performances and group photographs, leaving the recovering soldiers with moments of laughter and companionship.
The initiative underscores the growing emphasis on the welfare of troops, particularly personnel recovering from injuries sustained while confronting security threats across the country.
