Troops Nab Five, Seize Vehicles, Fuel, Medicines Meant for Terrorist Network in Borno

Borno State Government

Five suspects have been arrested as troops of the Nigerian Army intercepted vehicles and other logistics allegedly destined for terrorist couriers and vendors in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State.

The arrests followed a targeted security operation conducted by troops of 3 Battalion (Motorised) in the Ladari and Gamboru Garage areas of Gamboru-Ngala at about 5:35 p.m. on Friday, August 28.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that troops first apprehended a 35-year-old suspect identified as Ali Dala at Ladari during the operation.

Four other suspects were subsequently arrested at Gamboru Garage. They were identified as Babagana Amarja, 41; Garba Mohammed, 37; Abdullahi Mohammed, 53; and Mado Ali, 39.

The operation also led to the interception of several vehicles suspected of being used to move supplies to terrorist couriers and vendors operating in Gamboru and neighbouring communities.

Among the vehicles seized were a white Volkswagen Golf 3 wagon with registration number A877 DKW; a black Golf 3 wagon marked ACA 787 AAC; a red Golf 3 wagon with registration number GAS 35; and a brown Vendon saloon car bearing KBG 14 XA.

Troops also recovered eight jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and a sack containing assorted medicines.

The medicines were allegedly concealed inside a sack of charcoal, in what security personnel suspected was an attempt to disguise the consignment and move it through the area without attracting attention.

The five suspects and all recovered items have been taken into military custody for further investigation.

The latest operation is part of sustained efforts by security forces to cripple the supply chains that provide terrorists with fuel, medicines, transportation and other essential logistics needed to sustain their activities.

Although the overall security situation across the theatre was described as relatively calm, security authorities noted that it remained unpredictable, with troops maintaining operational readiness and continuing efforts to disrupt terrorist networks.

The military said the morale and fighting efficiency of its personnel remained satisfactory as operations continue across the theatre.
