…Notorious Commander Escapes With Gunshot Wounds
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have dealt a major blow to a terrorist syndicate operating in Katsina State, killing two of its high-ranking commanders during a dawn raid in Matazu Local Government Area.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of Monday, August 31, followed intelligence reports pinpointing the location of the terrorists’ hideout.
According to security sources, the troops moved swiftly on the identified enclave and engaged the terrorists in a fierce exchange of gunfire. The superior firepower of the security forces reportedly overwhelmed the group, leaving two senior members dead.
Among those neutralised was Hamisu, popularly known as Mamiyo, described as a prominent arms trafficker and the second-in-command to the wanted terrorist commander, Kachalla Muhammadu Filani.
Another senior operative, identified as Umar Bocho, a key lieutenant in the syndicate, was also killed during the encounter.
Sources said the group’s leader, Muhammadu Filani, managed to escape but sustained serious gunshot injuries in the process.
Two motorcycles reportedly belonging to the terrorists were also seized and destroyed during the operation.
Following the successful raid, security forces have intensified efforts to locate the wounded terrorist commander and apprehend other members of the group who fled the area.
Residents of Matazu and neighbouring communities have been urged to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements.
Medical personnel and health facilities in and around Matazu have also been advised to immediately alert security authorities if anyone arrives seeking treatment for unexplained or suspicious gunshot injuries.
Troops have continued with clearance and mop-up operations across the area as efforts intensify to prevent the fleeing terrorists from regrouping and to dismantle the criminal network completely.
