Troops Foil Terrorist Attack in Sabon Birni, Civilian Killed

Borno State Government

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have thwarted an attempted terrorist attack on Tsalanbango community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, but a civilian was killed and two others injured during the incident.

The attack occurred around 12:13 a.m. on August 20, 2026, when troops stationed at Ungwalelle received reports of terrorists invading the community.

According to security sources, the soldiers immediately moved to the area and engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire.

The military intervention reportedly forced the terrorists to abandon their advance and retreat into surrounding areas.

Despite the troops’ swift response, one civilian lost his life, while two others sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.

The wounded victims were evacuated to Yarbulutu Hospital, where they were admitted and placed under medical care.

Following the encounter, troops intensified patrols and maintained a strong presence around the community to prevent the attackers from regrouping or attempting another assault.

The latest incident highlights the continuing security concerns in the Sabon Birni axis, where remote communities remain vulnerable to attacks by armed groups.

Security forces are expected to sustain intelligence-driven operations, surveillance and aggressive patrols across the area as efforts continue to safeguard residents and deny terrorists freedom of movement.
