Troops of the Nigerian Army have thwarted suspected terrorist activities in parts of Sokoto State following a swift military response to intelligence reports from troubled communities.
Security sources disclosed that troops of the 8 Division Garrison stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Gandi were mobilised around 11:15 a.m. on May 5 after reports emerged of suspicious terrorist movements around Dankalmawan and Kurukuru villages.
The troops reportedly stormed the affected areas and carried out aggressive clearance operations to flush out the criminals.
According to the sources, the suspected terrorists fled before the arrival of the military, preventing direct confrontation.
“Troops responded promptly to the information and dominated the area to deny the criminals freedom of action,” a source said.
The military further revealed that surveillance and patrol operations had been intensified across the affected communities and surrounding areas to prevent fresh attacks and maintain security dominance.
Security forces also reaffirmed their determination to sustain offensive operations against terrorists and other criminal elements across the North-West region.
