Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have dealt another major blow to terrorist groups operating in the North-West, rescuing an abducted district head, repelling multiple coordinated attacks and recovering a cache of weapons in separate operations across Katsina and Zamfara states.

The latest offensives, carried out on July 2, also left at least three terrorists dead as security forces intensified pressure on criminal elements attempting to destabilise communities in the region.

The most dramatic operation unfolded in Farin Hawa Village, Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, where heavily armed terrorists stormed the community and abducted the District Head, Mr. Mubarak Sharin.

Acting swiftly on intelligence, troops of Sector 2, supported by other security agencies, launched a hot pursuit of the fleeing gunmen. The security operatives caught up with the terrorists, engaged them in a fierce gun battle, neutralised one of the kidnappers and successfully rescued the traditional ruler before he could be taken to a terrorist hideout.

In another encounter between Amara and Chakau Junction in Danmusa Local Government Area, troops on fighting patrol overpowered terrorists who opened fire after sighting the advancing soldiers. The criminals fled under intense military fire, abandoning one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles.

Troops also responded to another terrorist attack near Sabon Garin and Dantakeri villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area, where they joined forces with other security agencies and local vigilantes to repel the attackers. One terrorist was killed during the exchange of gunfire.

In neighbouring Zamfara State, troops stationed at Dauran in Bukkuyum Local Government Area successfully defended their position against a determined terrorist assault. Reinforcements arrived promptly, forcing the attackers into a disorderly retreat.

The fleeing terrorists abandoned one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 35 rounds of ammunition, a bandolier and a CamelBak hydration pack, all of which were recovered by the troops.

Commending the courage and professionalism of the personnel involved, the Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said the successful operations reflected the military’s unwavering resolve to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace across the region.

The Task Force assured residents that offensive operations against terrorist enclaves would continue in collaboration with other security agencies and local communities until criminal elements are completely denied freedom of action in the North-West.
