Military operatives have dealt fresh blows to terrorist networks in the North-West, neutralising several fighters and intercepting hundreds of rounds of ammunition in separate operations across Zamfara and Kaduna States.
The operations, conducted on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, were carried out by troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, as part of ongoing efforts to cripple terrorist activities and cut off their access to weapons.
In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 launched an ambush after receiving intelligence about the movement of terrorists from the Fakai General Area towards Kwanar Jolof and Tashar Dole, areas covering Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas.
The troops laid in wait at Kwanar Jolof before engaging the terrorists in a fierce encounter.
Several terrorists were reportedly neutralised during the operation, while others escaped into surrounding areas.
A subsequent search of the area uncovered a significant cache of weapons and other items reportedly linked to the terrorists.
Recovered items included an RPG launcher, one RPG bomb, an AK-47 rifle, six AK-47 magazines, 106 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle, among other materials.
The military recorded another major breakthrough in Kaduna State on the same day when troops of Sector 1 intercepted a vehicle at a snap checkpoint along the Saulawa-Zaria Road.
According to the Joint Task Force, trouble began when one of the passengers resisted efforts to inspect his bag.
The suspect allegedly attempted to flee after troops compelled him to open the bag, prompting soldiers to give chase. The suspect was subsequently neutralised.
What troops discovered inside the bag revealed the scale of the operation.
Hidden beneath gari were 793 rounds of ammunition, which the military said were being transported through the area.
The vehicle and its driver have since been taken into military custody as investigations continue into the source, destination and intended recipients of the ammunition.
The latest operations represent another significant step in the military’s sustained campaign against terrorism and criminal networks operating across the North-West.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA has intensified efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their logistics chains and prevent the movement of arms and ammunition within the Joint Operations Area.
The military said its troops remain committed to sustaining pressure on terrorist elements while working towards restoring peace and security to communities affected by violence.
